Nice post on URL Best practices @ SearchEngineWatch Forum
January 2nd, 2007 | More Posts: Internet Marketing |An interesting post on Best Practices for SEO Urls in Building CMS in SearchEngineWatch forum. Its very important that developers consider the following checklist before they plan on their next CMS sofware.
Keywords in URL’s
Use the title tag or the page name when creating urls automatically.
Stop Characters
Google/other search engines limits their indexing when they find specifica variables such as ? & =. Better to avoid these characters and produce a url that is readable both for users as well as search engines.
URL Readability
Use hyphens (-) when you join two words in the url and make sure that it is in lowercase. Also, in comparison with underscores (_), search engines prefer hyphens a lot.
Session Id’s and Cookies
Google Spiders do not accept cookies and sessions for many reasons including duplicant content issues.
