Web 2.0 Marketing + SEO / PPC + Social Research Training

Which Is Greater: Link building Or Content?

My straight forward answer: CONTENT. If you have content that matters, even a natural (through word of mouth) linking would produce a dramatic increase in the traffic. Yesterday, today and forever – CONTENT would be the single most important factor in user experience, not to mention about search engine preference too is the same. Once you have a rich content on the chosen subject, you really don’t have to sweat much stuff on the link building per se. A reasonable link exercise on social media would help to spread the most unimaginable places.

Bloggers would pick your content, write their version of their thought and give a link back to you. Social media users would share and recommend your content to their network of users. Thanks to long tail keywords, you website would rank for almost all sorts of long-tail keywords without even a single effort on link building. Sounds too simple? It’s not – because coming up with such quality content is, has been the most difficult thing for online brands.

As I recommend to my students and fellow marketers, make sure you focus a lot on how your website is being structured, how the pages are inter-linked, and what kind of content that you could provide on your website – preferably if your website touches 360 degree perspective on a chosen theme – you are going to enjoy a lot from the traffic and sales that your long-tail focused content could deliver.

NOTE: I am not against link building, but I would prefer to keep CONTENT as my first priority.
