My straight forward answer: CONTENT. If you have content that matters, even a natural (through word of mouth) linking would produce a dramatic increase in the traffic. Yesterday, today and forever – CONTENT would be the single most important factor in user experience, not to mention about search engine preference too is the same. Once you have a rich content on the chosen subject, you really don’t have to sweat much stuff on the link building per se. A reasonable link exercise on social media would help to spread the most unimaginable places.
Bloggers would pick your content, write their version of their thought and give a link back to you. Social media users would share and recommend your content to their network of users. Thanks to long tail keywords, you website would rank for almost all sorts of long-tail keywords without even a single effort on link building. Sounds too simple? It’s not – because coming up with such quality content is, has been the most difficult thing for online brands.
As I recommend to my students and fellow marketers, make sure you focus a lot on how your website is being structured, how the pages are inter-linked, and what kind of content that you could provide on your website – preferably if your website touches 360 degree perspective on a chosen theme – you are going to enjoy a lot from the traffic and sales that your long-tail focused content could deliver.
NOTE: I am not against link building, but I would prefer to keep CONTENT as my first priority.

Sandeep Malhotra from Research Analyst at Drizzlin Media says “Social Media Marketing is at a very nascent stage in India but as many in the industry would not want to accept or at least admit that, one might find many well positioned players claiming to offer the best.
One way to evaluate a social media marketing agency is reading between the deliverable metrics they offer. Work with those who offer quality and organic conversations, content and ideas. Doubt those who offer traffic, reach, leads, seeds, SEO, links blah blah. If one is looking at pure reach, there are other better alternatives to social media…”

With the superficial success of Facebook, MySpace, Orkut and several other social media sites, eBay – the e-commerce company launched their own Social Networking hub called Neighborhoods. It’s a meeting place for buyers, sellers or just a visitor to peek into the discussion and learn something there. They already had a buyer/seller section which, to an extent, did the same. However, these neighborhoods are not welcomed by all. The typical concern is that the spammers and scammers can take the control of these neighborhoods.

There’s a growing concern among Search engine optimization (SEO) professionals regarding the Google’s Link: checking command. Most of the time, google’s link counts are significantly lower than the counts provided by the rival engines such as Yahoo and Live. There’s an hot debate in the industry suspecting the google’s link: command being outdated.
There’s a good news. Google has enhanced the Links checking tool and added as part of the Webmaster Central forcing the site owners to create an account. Google’s Webmaster Central is definitely a plus for the industry inspite of few bugs and issues.
So, does this new enhanced tool offers better link counts than Yahoo and Live? The answer is no and it does not matter. Google’s link checker tool is only a feature for the site owners and the general public to know the incoming links for a specific domain. Whether Google report the backlinks count accurately or not, it has no effect on their ranking algorithms based on the link popularity and link reputation. Google’s link report does not constitute the actual counting of all your backlinks.
So, clients demanding backlinks only from PR4+ sites needs to be educated on this. As always, quality over takes quantity as far as link building is concerned. Since the quality is very abstract, we can define it by:
1. Importance of the page
2. Importance of the link location
3. Important of the page worthiness from the website’s main page
4. Number of competing links on the same page
5. Strategy to increase the link reputation
